Presenter:  Dr. Michelle Thompson

Dr. Michelle Thompson is an Assistant Professor and Director of Digital Dentistry at the University of
Texas School of Dentistry at Houston (UTSD). She oversees the integration of digital dentistry
(CAD/CAM) into the predoctoral curriculum, AEGD/GPR, Graduate Prosthodontics, and UT Dentists
Faculty Practice. Dr. Thompson is an HUCD graduate from 2012 and she completed a two-year general
practice residency at UTSD. She has been invited for local, state, national, and international
presentations on digital dentistry and recently was selected as a finalist along with her collaborators for
the Dr. Judith Drew Innovation in Health Science Education Award by the University of Texas System’s
Kenneth I. Shine, M.D., Academy of Health Science Education. In organized dentistry, Dr. Thompson
serves in the American Dental Association’s Diversity and Inclusion Committee, Trustee for the
Hispanic Dental Association, and has served in multiple leadership roles in the Texas Dental
Association and Greater Houston Dental Society. In 2021, she was awarded the Texas Dental
Association’s Rising Star in the Lone Star Award and the Greater Houston Dental Society’s Presidents
Award. She is married to Dr. Jason Thompson (Endodontist, HUCD alum ’12) and has two children,
Jason Jr (4) and Nora Jean (1).

 

Presenter:  Dr. Marilia Sly

Dr. Marilia Sly is an Associate Professor at the University of Texas School of Dentistry at
Houston (UTSD), Restorative Dentistry & Prosthodontics Department. She directs the Laboratorial
Biomaterials and the Indirect Single Unit preclinical courses. Dr. Sly earned her DDS in 1995 and a
Master of Science in Dental Biomaterials from Indiana University in 2006. She has been a UTHealth
fellow in Health Educations since 2019. She has received the Dean’s Excellence Award in Teaching
from UTSD and has been invited for local, state, national, and international presentations. Dr. Sly is a
member of the Omicron Kappa Upsilon National Dental Honor Society, Mu Mu Chapter. In her spare
time, she enjoys exploring new places and entertaining friends at home with her husband Brian Sly and
children Thomas and Victoria.
